When his father visits from China, he performs Gua Sha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son. I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences.
But the most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. This movie starts powerful, but unfortunately, as the plot develops, the anticipation decreases. At the end the viewer is bored with brainless action, that we have been seeing since the second Rambo movie (the first didnt have so much shooting).
The cast is good, Pitt and Jolie give life to their characters, but it takes much more than two good actors to create a good film. The final shooting scene kept me asking, is there a gunfight, or am I watching someone playing Half-Life 2 with god mode on? This movie lacks balance. The bad guys look pathetic, they look as if they havent held a gun before, much less used it. Its just the late Hollywood tendency, not to care about plausibility, but just brainless action, and the more, the better.
Bottom line : Mr. and Mrs. Smith is an entertaining movie. It has several ingenious moments, a good idea, great effects, nice camera-work, but come on, the bad guys are supposed to be pros :) . But dont expect to see something like "Face/Off", simply because you wont.

Let me state my preferences up front. Im a big fan of the epic adventure, a category in which Braveheart, like cream, rises to the top. Those viewing this picture may be easily reminded of Gettysburg, The Last of the Mohicans, Glory, and such classics as Lawrence of Arabia, El Cid, and Spartacus. The grandeur is certainly present; nevertheless, Gibson gives us not only memorable battles, but characters of real substance.

Hes a worthy foe for Wallace because his intelligence matches his ruthlessness. Sophie Marceau, the French actress who plays Princess Isabelle, and Catherine McCormack are both immensely appealing.
